About Humanities Digitalised…

I am really happy to write this blog and share my journey with my readers! I would not call myself a blogger yet… but hey! Everybody has to start somewhere right?

I am a senior in Finance at AUB. This is my last semester, and I would say that I have mixed feelings concerning what comes after. I am still not sure about my future plans and I am still trying to enjoy my last moments as a student! I am really happy I chose this university as I built new friendships and engaged in many extra curricular activities. In fact, during these three years, I joined a varsity, helped in many clubs and associations , took very enlightening classes and was mentored by great professors.

I really have a passion for sports. I practice horseback riding at least 4 times per week and I am a member of the AUB Frisbee varsity. Joining this team was really a great experience. I made a lot of friends and participated in international tournaments.

I am not really excited to graduate yet. I know one thing : after college it gets way harder… But every stage in life comes with its advantages! I hope I will be ready for the challenges that are waiting for me after AUB…

This blog is a way for me to share my experiences during these last months as an undergraduate. As I am taking this course about digital humanities, I am learning about new technologies and I am sure they will help me later, in my professional life. ( Go check my blogs for more!!!) But, more than learning new tools, I developed a research project with my team by working on a research question, a proposal and on my timeline using Timeline JS.

In this class, we looked at several questions around digital humanities, including the features between close and distant reading, the influence of computers on literature and how to succeed in building a DH project. Furthermore, it was all about creating a digital humanity community both online and offline. In fact, I discovered great twitter accounts about the subject and participated in this community by tweeting about the subject. In class, I was always interacting with my peers. We were always sharing our thoughts and idea, debating, giving constructive feedbacks to each other…

As a Finance major, I am good with numbers and have structured thoughts. However, it is important for me to take classes such as Digital Humanities in order to push my imagination and explore my creativity. In fact, in the blogs I posted, I explain how projects throughout the semester helped me discover new digital tools that will later be used for my final project, and I am sure, in the future.

I think that the future is digital. In a couple of years, everything will be done through the internet. Wether you are buying or selling something or an idea, you will have to do it online. That’s why I think that being able to master the use of new tools is primordial in order to succeed. The environment is constantly changing and new ways of thinking and of acting are developed everyday. Of course, one cannot be aware of everything that is happening. However, there is always place for improvement. I am always looking to improve my skills. The ENGLISH 256B class was really useful . Working on a project throughout the semester helped me put my ideas into place and always look further for improvements.

We must stay up to date and try to adapt to the shift towards a world governed by technology.

My objective as a future graduate is to always stay up for challenges and ready to seize opportunities. I think you have to get out of your comfort zone in order to really make the most of each experiences. I want to learn more about new technologies as they are already giving rise to a new job market, while combining this knowledge to my background in Finance.
